What data we collect and why

Bookings

Bookings are handled through Clarity Hostel Booking, operated by Independent Hostels UK. When you make a booking, your personal details (including your name, email address, and group information) are collected and processed by Independent Hostels UK. Please refer to their privacy policy for details of how they handle your data. The Bunkhouse Warden receives booking details in order to manage your stay.

Contacting us

The Contact page provides an email address for direct enquiries and a contact form. Messages submitted via the contact form are delivered by email to the Bunkhouse Warden. No enquiry data is stored on this website.

Cookies

This website uses essential cookies only — these are necessary for the site to function correctly. No tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies are used.

A cookie consent notice is displayed on your first visit, managed by CookieYes. WordPress also sets session cookies required for site functionality. These cookies do not identify you personally.

If you are a site administrator and log in to the WordPress dashboard, additional cookies will be set to manage your login session. These are not set for regular visitors.

Enquiries sent by email are retained only as long as necessary to respond. Booking data is retained by Independent Hostels UK in accordance with their privacy policy. Standard server access logs are retained by our hosting provider, Krystal Hosting, in accordance with their privacy policy.

Under UK GDPR you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the email address on our Contact page.

This website is hosted by Krystal Hosting. Krystal may process limited technical data (such as IP addresses in server logs) as part of providing hosting services. Please refer to Krystal’s privacy policy for details.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be published on this page.

Hidden Earth 2026 prize draw

When you enter our Hidden Earth 2026 giveaway, we collect the name and email address you provide on the entry form.

• Why we use it: to run the prize draw and to contact you if you win. This is in our legitimate interest in administering the draw you chose to enter.
• If you tick the optional box: we also email you the result and a single bunkhouse-news email. We do this on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by asking us to stop.
• Who sees it: your entry is stored on our own website and a copy is sent to our competition mailbox. We never sell or share entrants’ details with anyone else.
• How long we keep it: we delete all entrants’ names and email addresses by 31 December 2026, once the draw and the prize booking are complete.
• Your rights: you can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or withdraw consent to the news email, by contacting bunkhousewarden@southdartmoorbunkhouse.co.uk. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
